Overcome breathlessness

Mother & Baby (UK) - - BUMP & BIRTH -

During your third trimester, pressure on your diaphragm can impact on your breathing. This deep-breathing exercise, using an acupressure point, can improve how you breathe, reducing breathlessness. Get in the habit of regularly making a mental check of how you’re breathing throughout the day. If you catch yourself feeling short of breath, or holding your breath – a common occurrence when you’re on your phone searching for the perfect pram – use this exercise to restore order. Hold your left hand with your right hand, with the right thumb applying pressure to the centre of the palm of your left hand. This is an acupressure point for your diaphragm and can help you connect with your breathing and release tension. Close your eyes and breathe gently, focusing your attention on the palm of your hand. Breathe in for a count of five, pause for a count of two, then breathe out for a count of seven. Swap hands, and repeat as you press on the point in the centre of your right hand.
