‘On holiday in Majorca the other evening, my husband Stephen and I went out for a meal. When we reached a lovely traditional restaurant, Stephen asked for a table. Smiling, the waitress pointed at my stomach and asked if it was a table for three we were after. “No, four,” Stephen replied, taking the joke one step further. Once we’d explained that I am expecting twins, the waitress was beside herself with excitement. It was infectious – I was giddy all through our meal! Just two days earlier I’d announced my pregnancy on Facebook, and I wasn’t used to discussing it with friends, let alone strangers. I’ve felt like I looked pregnant for weeks, but there’s a difference between people suspecting you’re pregnant and a stranger being confident enough to say you are! From that moment on I’ve felt validated as a mum-to-be. At the end of our meal, when the waitress brought Stephen a complimentary liquor and me a shot of orange juice, I beamed with pride!’
