‘My baby shower had been planned to perfection. I’d invited 20 girlfriends to a party at my flat, organised games, and placed an online food order to be delivered the evening before. At bedtime, there was still no sign of the delivery and the next morning, four hours before guests were due to arrive, I began to panic. There was only one thing for it – I phoned my mum! “Don't worry,” she calmly said, and asked me to email over my shopping list. She went to the supermarket, then cooked and assembled an amazing spread. She was an absolute lifesaver! Watching her turn the situation round so calmly and naturally, I suddenly understood what it means to be a mum – you’ll do anything, and go to any lengths, to help your child. I knew that, before long, I’d be going on the same rescue missions for my baby boy. That afternoon, I raised a glass of pretend fizz to Mum, feeling grateful, overwhelmed, and excited about becoming a mum myself.’
