Mother & Baby (UK) - - BUMP & BIRTH -

‘The moment I knew – really knew – that I was going to have a baby can be summed up in two words: tiny socks. I ordered some newborn clothes and was pottering around the nursery, tucking sleepsuits and vests neatly away. Everything felt so new, exciting and unfamiliar. And then I came to the socks. All of a sudden, something strange came over me. As I held the tiny socks in my palm, it was impossible not to imagine the soft, vulnerable and real little feet that were going to fill them. I’d only imagined the baby in an abstract way before then but, at that moment, he or she became real. Preparing for this baby wasn’t just about acquiring extra stuff – it was about my actual, real-life new baby. I felt excited, terrified and slightly dizzy! I still often peek at those socks to remind myself that every day brings me closer to those tiny feet.’
