Button calls for more grip to aid enjoyment of 2017 spec F1 cars

Mclaren ace Jenson Button has called for the next generation of F1 cars to focus on increasing mechanical grip.

F1 is set for a rules revolution in 2017, with proposed changes to make the cars faster and provide more overtaking, although exact details are yet to be finalised.

Button said: “One of the big things is that the drivers need to enjoy driving the car. Mechanical grip is the way you need to go about finding lap time, because it doesn’t impact on following [other cars].

“I guess the biggest [aero] gains have to come from the diffuser as that’s the part that least impacts on following.”
