EX-F1 man Petrov joins WEC in LMP2
Ex-renault Formula 1 driver Vitaly Petrov will race in the LMP2 class of the World Endurance Championship with SMP Racing this year.
The Russian was left on the sidelines in 2015 after being unable to find a drive but will join SMP as it steps up from the European Le Mans Series into WEC.
“It will not be easy, but we know what to do to get results,” said Petrov, who raced in the DTM in 2014. “I am sure that next year we will fight for the title and will do everything possible to do so.” World Touring Car champion Jose Maria Lopez is eyeing an assault on the Le Mans 24 Hours once his current deal with Citroen finishes later this year.
