Junior WRC driver to get the backing of Loeb for 2016 season
Even if his own hopes of returning to the World Rally Championship have been dashed, Sebastien Loeb will be back at the sport’s highest level – running fellow Alsatian Terry Folb in the Junior WRC.
Sebastien Loeb Racing will add rallying to its race car programme this season and the nine-time champion said Folb, who ended his JWRC rookie year with three podium finishes to take third in the 2015 standings, was the perfect driver to run.
Loeb said: “He’s young, he’s experienced with both the DS 3 R3 Max and the Junior WRC and, on top of that, he’s from Alsace too. So he’s got the perfect profile! He’s a young driver with a good head on his shoulders.”
Folb, 25, will drive an SLRrun DS 3 R3 Max in the Junior series that starts at May’s Rally of Portugal.
Folb said: “There cannot be any better teacher than Sebastien himself. It’s a fantastic opportunity for a driver. I’m convinced I’m going to learn a lot. Sebastien will be a real asset to my progress. The team is very professional and well-structured. We’re sharing the same ambition.”
