Boyle will stick with Irish Tarmac in WRC
Declan Boyle intends to campaign his new generation Ford Fiesta WRC in the 2016 Irish Tarmac Championship.
While World Rally Cars can no longer score points for the overall title, Boyle said he would look to win as many rounds as he could. Under the new rules, R5 and S2000 crews will fight it out for key silverware.
Boyle said triumphing on his home international – the Donegal Rally – remained a priority for him and his cousin, Brian. “That tops the list,” said Boyle, who is also committed to the Irish National Championship.
“We plan to follow the Tarmac Championship and do the Irish National Championship as well, which I love. The format, from the recce to the rally itself, really suits us. That is the reason why I like it so much.”
Boyle is confident of more success after making the switch from a Subaru to the ex-m-sport Fiesta. “We are still settling into the car – [October’s] Donegal Harvest Rally was our fourth outing in it,” he said.
“If we can get another three or four rallies under our belts we should be in good shape. We now have a dry setting and a setting for the wet and we have all the tyre camber angles 100 per cent. The car is now perfect, so it is up to me to get the most out of it. There is still a lot left in it.”
