Davies steps up to a Fiesta R5 for 2016 BRC season
Welshman Tomas Davies has become the latest driver to commit to the 2016 British Rally Championship.
Davies – a regular in the British Historic Championship at the wheel of a Pintopowered Ford Escort – has bought a new Ford Fiesta R5 from M-sport. It will be prepared and run on events by Dylan Davies Rallying.
Davies got his first taste of the car during a rain-hit test at Sweet Lamb over the weekend prior to making his debut aboard it on next month’s Galway International rally.
“Conditions were very bad,” he told MN. “Despite this, the car gave me a lot of confidence – I felt that I knew what it was always going to do. The braking and the traction were both very impressive, but it will take time to adapt to all-wheel drive.”
On his plans for 2016, the 31-year-old said: “I always liked the idea of having a go in a modern car and I felt with the current format of the British Rally Championship it was as good a time as any. I want to do Galway, the Red Kite Stages a fortnight later, and then the Mid Wales Stages Rally if all goes well for us.”
Davies – who will be navigated once again by close friend Eurig Davies – added: “The idea at the moment is to do the full British Rally Championship and also some of the Irish Tarmac Championship events.”
