LONDON: FORMULA E
Last season was the first time in over 40 years that a motor race was held on London’s streets, with Formula E’s season finale taking place at Battersea Park. And there could’ve been another lengthy hiatus if some local objections to the race being staged again were successful.
Thankfully, Wandsworth Council voted to keep the event and if you missed out in 2015 there’s another chance to see motorsport at close quarters on the capital’s streets this year.
The all-electric nature of the series may not suit everyone’s tastes but the racing is often very close and unpredictable. The British round will once again be a season-closing double-header so has the potential to provide plenty of excitement.
Last year’s event was a nail-biter with Sam Bird triumphing on home soil, while the title battle between Nelson Piquet Jr and Sebastien Buemi was thrilling. Piquet seemed to have blown it with a 16th place start for the finale but a spin for Buemi allowed the Brazilian to triumph by a single point.
Expect more drama in 2016.
