SILVERSTONE: FORMULA 1 BRITISH GRAND PRIX July 8-10
It’s no surprise the British Grand Prix is on this list, however it is quite frightening to consider the number of motorsport fans who haven’t made the pilgrimage to Formula 1’s oldest race.
The home of the British Grand Prix continuously since 1987 after rotating with Brands Hatch between 1964-87 and Aintree before that, Silverstone provides one of the toughest tests on the F1 calendar with brilliant high-speed corners like Maggotts and Becketts.
Despite Mercedes’ dominance over the last two years, Silverstone has continued to throw a spanner in the works, with last year’s event almost won by Williams. The Grove jumped ahead of the front rowstarting Mercs and held the lead for the first portion of the race, but leader Felipe Massa held up team-mate Valtteri Bottas and the Silver Arrows were soon through. Lewis Hamilton took the win and will be looking to become only the second driver to take three straight British GPS after Jim Clark.
This year’s event should bring a stronger challenge from Ferrari as it closed the gap to Mercedes in 2015, and the Italian marque has the most wins at the event – 15 – one ahead of Mclaren.
