Now the pres­sure’s on. For the last two years, Hyundai has been able to de­flect ques­tions of its per­for­mance with a nod and a wink at the i20 WRC. That was the rally car team prin­ci­pal Michel Nan­dan was never that keen on build­ing: it was al­ways a com­pro­mise in terms of size, spec­i­fi­ca­tion and de­vel­op­ment time. The New Gen­er­a­tion i20 WRC is the real deal, this is the car Nan­dan and his Korean pay­mas­ters will want to be judged on. And, hav­ing bought them­selves an ex­tra half year (the car was due to be com­pet­ing for the se­cond half of last sea­son), hit­ting the ground at any­thing less than flat-chat won’t be ac­cept­able.
