Al-attiyah breaks rally record in Qatar

Vic­tory on last week’s Qatar In­ter­na­tional Rally has car­ried Nasser Al-attiyah past Mo­hammed bin Su­layem’s record of 60 Middle East Rally wins.

Al-attiyah’s 61st ca­reer suc­cess in the re­gional se­ries came fol­low­ing an­other dom­i­nant per­for­mance, this time aboard his new-for-2016 Skoda Fabia R5. He and co-driver Matthieu Baumel won 10 from 13 stages on the two-day event which fin­ished on Satur­day.

Mo­hammed Al-suwaidi was six min­utes down in se­cond place in a Ford Fi­esta R5.

While reign­ing WRC2 cham­pion Al-attiyah has over­taken bin Su­layem’s record for in­di­vid­ual rally wins, he still trails the UAE driver in terms of cham­pi­onship ti­tles. Bin Su­layem has 14 while Al-attiyah’s chas­ing his 12th this sea­son.

Be­tween them, Al-attiyah and bin Su­layem have won 121 of the 172 Middle East cham­pi­onship ral­lies run.
