Mercedes guarantees customer parity

Motor Sport News - - F1 2016 Mercedes -

Mercedes will supply all of its customer teams with equal specification engines this year.

Mercedes High Performance Powertrains in Brixworth developed an upgrade to the power units for the works cars only from last year’s Italian GP. At the time, Mercedes wanted to open up new development avenues, but limited resources meant the upgrade was not made available to customer teams.

Mercedes has now moved to guarantee that customers Williams, Force India and Manor will all receive equal spec engines this season.

Mercedes HPP managing director Andy Cowell said: “The upgrade last year took a huge amount of effort from the factory, and we only had enough resource to supply the works team with the latest spec engines at the time. However, that is now paying off for every team with Mercedes power as we’ve managed to build on that development work through the autumn and winter period. Now, all our customers are getting an improved package that is exactly the same spec as the works team.”
