Se­bas­tian Vet­tel led the way fol­low­ing the first day of F1 pre-sea­son test­ing at the Cir­cuit de Catalunya, but Fer­rari lagged well be­hind Mercedes in the over­all mileage count.

Four-time world cham­pion Vet­tel put the Scud­e­ria’s new SF16-H ma­chine top with his 1m24s lap on Mon­day morn­ing, but reign­ing cham­pion Lewis Hamil­ton had com­pleted 156 laps in his new F1 W07-hy­brid ma­chine just be­fore Mo­tor­sport News closed for press in the evening. Vet­tel in com­par­i­son com­pleted just 69 laps dur­ing a leisurely start for Fer­rari.

The re­sult mir­rors the first day of test­ing at the same venue last year, with Fer­rari fastest and Mercedes top of the mileage chart.
