Schu­macher Jr joins Prema for F4

Mick Schu­macher will re­main in For­mula 4 for a se­cond sea­son this year af­ter sign­ing with Prema Pow­erteam.

The 16-year-old son of F1 leg­end Michael Schu­macher made his car rac­ing de­but in Ger­man F4 last sea­son driv­ing for Van Amers­foort Rac­ing. He fin­ished 10th in the points and scored a maiden win at Osch­er­sleben.

Schu­macher Jr was spied test­ing with Prema at Monza last Novem­ber, and will now com­plete a full cam­paign with the Ital­ian team. Prema will run cars in both the Ital­ian and Ger­man F4 classes, but has yet to spec­ify which cham­pi­onship it will pri­ori­tise, but Schu­macher Jr will get mileage in both.

Prema founder An­gelo Rosin said: “As a driver, Mick is show­cas­ing a con­stantly im­prov­ing po­ten­tial and he al­ready has one year of ex­pe­ri­ence in F4. In his first year he showed he has all it takes to aim for the top.”

Schu­macher added: “Prema is the per­fect next step for me to go for the best per­for­mance and to be­come a com­plete driver. The team is very ex­pe­ri­enced and it is al­ready a lot of fun to work with.”
