Schumacher Jr joins Prema for F4
Mick Schumacher will remain in Formula 4 for a second season this year after signing with Prema Powerteam.
The 16-year-old son of F1 legend Michael Schumacher made his car racing debut in German F4 last season driving for Van Amersfoort Racing. He finished 10th in the points and scored a maiden win at Oschersleben.
Schumacher Jr was spied testing with Prema at Monza last November, and will now complete a full campaign with the Italian team. Prema will run cars in both the Italian and German F4 classes, but has yet to specify which championship it will prioritise, but Schumacher Jr will get mileage in both.
Prema founder Angelo Rosin said: “As a driver, Mick is showcasing a constantly improving potential and he already has one year of experience in F4. In his first year he showed he has all it takes to aim for the top.”
Schumacher added: “Prema is the perfect next step for me to go for the best performance and to become a complete driver. The team is very experienced and it is already a lot of fun to work with.”
