British GT man Plato switches to the Porsche Carrera Cup GB
Former British GT driver Lewis Plato will switch to the Porsche Carrera Cup GB this year with Redline Racing.
The 22-year-old shared a Mercedes SLS AMG GT3 with Alistair Mackinnon in British GT last year, but had a difficult season, picking up a best result of fourth. He will now switch to the TOCA support category with the title-winning Redline squad.
“I had quite a mixed season in British GT last year,” said Plato. “I’m in the early stages of my career and thought it would be best to make the move back into a one-make championship. It should be quite a challenge.”
Plato said he was aware that he would be lining up alongside last year’s series dominator Dan Cammish at Redline.
“The best way to beat a competitor like Dan is to be in the same team as him,” Plato added. “Then I can learn from him, but it’s going to be very difficult. I tested in Spain last week with my team-mates Charlie Eastwood and Tom Oliphant and we were within two tenths of each other.”
Plato is the latest of the 21 drivers to sign up to the series so far.
