Wolverhampton Uni to field F3 Cup racer
The University of Wolverhampton student team will compete in the F3 Cup this year, running ex-formula Renault racer Shane Kelly.
The university’s UWR team has taken delivery of an ex-fortec Motorsports Dallara- Mugen Honda F308 car and will field it in the full MSVR championship this season.
The team previously ran Kelly in a Formula Renault 2.0 during last year’s Monoposto Championship.
The university has invested £10million in updating its engineering facilities at its Telford Innovation Campus in Priorslee and has invested in the Dallara to give students practical experience.
Kelly said: “The students learnt a lot during their first year with the Frenault, but now most of them are into their second year so we’re coming into a season with a well gelled team.
“The F3 car is a big step up in terms of technicality for them, with the extra power and the aero dependency. It fits with what the university is doing with windtunnel studies and such. We had some wins in the Frenault last year so hopefully we can do similar this year.”
