Meeke: eyes on next year not next rallies
Kris Meeke is not frustrated at missing the next two rallies, as they are events he feels he does not need to win according to the Northern Irishman.
Meeke said this season was about keeping his hand and his experience high on rallies he doesn’t know so well. “There’s no frustration from me about not doing the next two rallies,” Meeke said. “I don’t need to be trying to win. Yes, we could have won in Monte and we could have been in the thick of it in Sweden. But this is not about winning – all eyes are on next season.”
Citroen team principal Yves Matton says missing the next two rounds of the World Rally Championship will not impact on Meeke’s speed when he returns to the series later in the year.
After skipping the WRC’S two trips across the Atlantic for Mexico and Argentina, the Abu Dhabi Total World Rally Team is expected to be back in the WRC at the Rally of Portugal in May. Matton is sure Meeke’s speed will be undiminished.
He told MN: “He will be in the new car a lot of the time in the second half of the year. I am sure, his speed will be the same – do you think if [Sebastien] Ogier misses Mexico and Argentina then he will not fight for the victory in Portugal?”
