As the daughter of Per Nystrom, the Trollhattan garage owner with whom Erik Carlsson did his first rallies as a co-driver, Liz was surrounded by motorsport; having Saab’s competition department in her hometown also helped. She navigated a few times for her father and then it was suggested that she might like to drive with Pat Moss, who had married Erik in 1963 and had joined him in the Saab team.

Moss-carlsson and Nystrom started together in 1964 and finished that year with fourth place on the RAC Rally. They were third on the blizzardstruck Monte Carlo of 1965. For the 1968 season, they switched to Lancia and were instantly successful, finishing second on the Sanremo Rally and winning the Sestriere Rally. In 1969, Liz did her last rally with Pat, finishing sixth on the Monte Carlo.

In the 1970s, Liz took an interest in politics and served in Swedish Parliament. She and her rallying husband Ove Andersson were eventually divorced and she leaves two children, Sophie and Fredrik, to whom we extend our sympathies. John Davenport
