Bennett switches from BTRDA to the BRC
Reigning BTRDA 1400 rally champion Dave Bennett will step up to the British Rally Championship this year in his title-winning Vauxhall Corsa.
Bennett will compete a full season with regular co-driver Alistair Mcneil in the national rally cup, after feeling the time was right for a new challenge.
“We’ve had seven amazing years in the BTRDA progressing from winning the Rally First championship in 2008 and 2009 to winning the 1400 Championship in 2015.
“However after eight years and finally winning the 1400 crown it felt like the right time for a change. The appeal of the BRC is clear: fantastic championship, great history and pedigree and a new format that allows the clubman to make a step up via the National Rally Cup. The chance to compete on the same stages as the main BRC field and compete on longer classic events is very exciting and will be a big challenge.”
Bennett has spent the majority of his career on gravel, so the asphalt events in the championship will be an interesting proposition for the crew.
“The Tarmac rounds for us will be brand new, so we really can’t wait for the Circuit of Ireland and Manx – both true classics and a chance to cut our teeth on Tarmac.
“The first target is always to win our class and be among the leading two-wheel-drive cars in the National Cup. It will be great to rub shoulders with the BRC crews and compare times with some of the classes in the main field like the guys in the R2 class.”
