World Rally winner Markko Martin made a rare competitive outing when he drove a Ford Escort Mk2 on the Legend Boucles Bastogne last weekend.

Martin has only contested a handful of rallies since the WRC accident that claimed the life of co-driver Michael ‘Beef ’ Park on the 2005 Rally GB.

The Estonian, now 40 years old, lives in Monaco and is the manager of countryman Ott Tanak. However, the chance to tackle the Belgian event tempted him to get back behind the wheel.

“I have participated very little in 10 years with no real competition and I am very honored that the organisers thought of me,” said Martin, who was invited to do the rally by Stephane Prevot. “I made my comeback with a Group 4 Ford Escort and that appealed to me.”

Martin and Prevot finished second to the Porsche 911 of event winner Bernard Munster.
