Fittipaldi’s Lotus 59 goes on display
The ex-emerson Fittipaldi Lotus 59 was shown in public for the first time since 1973 at Race Retro.
The 1969 championship-winning car was on the 1000cc F3 Historic Racing Association stand in original condition, having been in a private collection since 1973.
After Fittipaldi raced the car in Jim Russell Racing Drivers’ School colours in his first season in Europe, the Lotus went to Fergus Tait, who won the Formula 4 title. It was then acquired by a collector and has been in storage for more than 40 years.
“It is original and has never been restored,” said Historic F3’s Keith Messer. “It has been loaned to us as a special favour and it’s attracted a lot of interest.”
