Blyton Park owner to get on his own track

-

Owner of Blyton Park Richard Usher will make his rallycross debut at the opening round of the BTRDA Clubmans Rallycross Championship next week.

Usher will drive a BMW Mini in the Blyton event and sampled the car for the first time on his own circuit at a rallycross test day last Sunday.

“I’ve done a lot of sprints over the last few years, because we have a lot at Blyton,” said Usher. “Last year I thought I’d do a sprint in a variety of cars, so I did one in a single-seater, one in a Mclaren P1 and also a Mazda MX-5. Variety is the spice of life, and I promised the Minicross Drivers’ Association at their awards ceremony that I would do an event.

“Rallycross is now box office. We had Petter Solberg here three weeks ago testing his car. I’m old enough to remember when it all started at Lydden Hill decades ago, but this was the first time I’ve ever driven properly around my own rallycross circuit.

“I thoroughly enjoyed myself, it was huge fun. It’s different driving on the loose, and I’m used to driving the Mclaren on the Tarmac with 600bhp, but this is great value for money motorsport.”
