RACE RETRO NEWS
Stars and cars feature at Stoneleigh’s packed show
Damon Hill and his 1996 Formula 1 title-winning Williams-renault FW18 were the major attractions at Race Retro last weekend.
A special display of four Williams Grand Prix cars was staged to mark the 20th anniversary of Hill’s title season and the team’s most successful campaign. During 1996, Hill and Jacques Villeneuve won 12 of the season’s 16 races for Williams.
Other cars in the historic motorsport show’s feature display were an FW13B from 1990, an FW15C from 1993 and an FW17 from 1995. Hill attended the show for the first time on Sunday.
The show’s other star car was from a totally different era as the vast recreation of the 1920s Leyland-thomas speed record car filled the Chateau Impney Hill Climb stand ( see above).
There will be a new look to Race Retro in 2017 as the event has been acquired by Clarion Events Ltd. “Race Retro comes to us as a well established and well supported event,” said Clarion’s Daniel Nwaokolo.
The 2017 date will be February 24-26 at the same venue at Stoneleigh Park near Coventry.
