Euro truck se­ries gets pro­moter boost

The FIA Euro­pean Truck Rac­ing Cham­pi­onship has ap­pointed a new body as pro­moter.

ETRA, the Euro­pean Truck Rac­ing As­so­ci­a­tion, which launched the 2016 sea­son last week, is formed from an idea of ex­ist­ing truck event or­gan­is­ers and the FIA, with the Ger­man goven­ing body ADAC as the ma­jor stake­holder.

Ge­org Fuchs will head up the or­gan­i­sa­tion. ETRA has at­tracted part­ner­ships from Goodyear for three years and has be­gun to in­crease the cham­pi­onship’s TV pro­file with shows on Mo­tors and Sky Sports. The for­mat of four races, two per day, con­tin­ues, with some events be­ing head­lined by the trucks and two part­ner­ing the Blancpain Sprint Se­ries.

The ETRA has launched the Na­tional Chal­lengers’ Cup to at­tract do­mes­tic en­trants.

Racer Ellen Lohr said: “This is a great time to show truck rac­ing to peo­ple in a new era for the sport.”
