BRDC Formula 4 graduate Tom Jackson lands LMP3 seat for European Le Mans Series
BRDC Formula 4 race winner Tom Jackson will graduate into the European Le Mans Series this year after landing a seat in an LMP3 prototype with Speed Factory Racing.
Jackson, 19, will share the Valenciabased team’s Ligier-nissan JS P3 with Spaniards Alvaro Fontes and Toni Forne. Jackson was third in last year’s BRDC F4 points and tested a Ligier LMP3 with Graff Racing in 2015.
“It was starting to look like I wasn’t going to get a chance in LMP3 as money talks so much at this level, but Speed Factory have taken a chance on me and it’s a great opportunity,” said Jackson.
“It’ll be a tough year, no doubt, as both of my team-mates are bronze-rated drivers and I’m silver, so will be looked at as the team leader to lead development and coach Alvaro and Toni on. They’ve both raced Radicals before so have reasonable experience and they also speak English so it makes things much easier.
“The team is learning the car, and so are we as drivers so we just need more running to get fully up to speed. At first we struggled with set-up, but the lap times have been encouraging recently. I’m looking forward to fighting with the bigger names in LMP3 like Alex Brundle and Matt Bell.”
