Mini ace Brandon moves into the VW Cup
Mini Challenge race winner Hamish Brandon will graduate into the Volkswagen Racing Cup this year with Team Hard.
The Hawick-based Scotsman will handle a newly built Mk6 Golf GTI, having sold his R56 JCW Mini after three years in the Challenge. Brandon has previously been runner-up in the Mini Challenge’s Cooper and R56 JCW Class points.
“I honestly didn’t think I’d be racing this year after selling the Mini, so this deal has come about very late but it’s very exciting,” said Brandon. “[BTCC racer] Chris Smiley is a good friend and he raced with [Team Hard boss] Tony Gilham last season, so the introduction came from there.
“The Golf is larger than the Mini, and is heavier, but it has more power. It’s a lovely car to drive. I’ve tested once and it took a little while to adjust to running no ABS, but we have a full race-spec pedal box in the Golf so you get a great feel through the pedal and from the chassis.”
Brandon will take his Panda brand to the Volkswagen Cup
