Title contenders return off road
The Britpart MSA British Cross Country Championship season gets underway at the weekend in Myherin forest and the series has attracted a high-quality entry.
All the leading title contenders from 2015 will return and they will be joined by some very quick driver and car combinations, including Martin Gould in his new Rivet-bmw, Colin Gould in an Audi-powered Clio and Justin Birchall in a Lofthouse Freelander.
It will be Birchall’s first full season of competition since 2012. He had his first outing in the BMW M3-engined Freelander last year and was immediately on the pace. He is one of the crews expected to be in the 2016 title race.
“We did two BCCC rounds last year and they went well,” said Birchall. “I expect there will be a great battle for the championship this year as there are several drivers who could potentially take the title, it’s the best quality entry list for many seasons.”
Running alongside the BCCC will be the Freelander Challenge. Ten cars have so far registered and they will be led away by 2014/15 champion Ian Linford, followed by Team Sheepie team-mate Louisa Felice.
The event will start at 1000hrs on Saturday.
