Barlow to make BTRDA debut in Somerset
Reigning Junior Formula 1000 champion Charlie Barlow will make a delayed debut on gravel in the BTRDA at the Somerset Stages this month in a 1400C Nissan Micra.
Barlow’s plans changed when they could not get the Micra’s engine ready for the Cambrian.
“We wanted to take our time, get everything right and get some testing done as I still haven’t driven on gravel,” he explained.
“We’ll go to Blyton and bed the car in, then we’ll go North Wales [on gravel] for a couple of days after Easter.”
Barlow will also step up a class on the Plains Rally, which follows Somerset, with a new engine as good as ready.
“For the Somerset we’ll have the 1400C engine before we upgrade to the 1400S on the next round,” Barlow added. “We’re getting about 125bhp out of it so it will be a good way for me to learn gravel before we move up to the 1400S. It should have 190bhp so it will be a good stepping stone.”
