Thompson rejoins WTCC in a Cruze
Touring car ace James Thompson will return to the World Touring Car Championship this weekend after agreeing a late deal to drive for Munnich Motorsport at the Slovakia Ring.
The two-time British Touring Car champion will replace team boss Rene Munnich, who has clashing World Rallycross commitments, and will drive a Chevrolet Cruze.
It is currently just a oneround deal but depending on how Thompson gets on, there could be further outings later in the season.
Team manager Dominik Greiner said: “The most important thing for James will be track time; to drive and learn the car.
“For the moment it’s only a one-off event for James but Rene has some more RX clashes during the season, so let’s see how things go during the weekend.”
Thompson last raced in the category in 2015 with the Lada squad.
