British Superkart Championship frontrunner Toby Davis has landed a fully funded season in the Volkswagen Racing Cup after being named as the winner of the Team Hard Scholarship.
Davis, from Ledbury, landed the seat after three rounds of the Scholarship contest, which puts drivers through fitness, media and on-track assessments for the £100,000 prize.
Davis will make his debut in a Team Hard-prepared Golf GTI at Rockingham on April 30/May 1.
Davis said: “To be part of a team with both the pedigree and the spread of talent in many different championships is massive for a young driver looking to progress in the sport.
“The team is well-connected and I’ve never met a group of harder workers. To win the scholarship means that my personal dream of one day competing in the BTCC is now a tangible possibility rather than remaining purely a dream.”
Team boss Tony Gilham said: “The scholarship worked perfectly and we’ve got a great driver, who is no doubt going to go on to do great things this season. He’s quick on track and we’re all eager to see how he gets on.”
