Markko Martin dom­i­nated last week­end’s Otago Clas­sic in a Ford Es­cort RS1800. The Es­to­nian, co-driven by Stephane Prevot, was 2m32s ahead of his near­est ri­val… Nasser Al-at­tiyah made the per­fect start to the de­fence of his FIA Cross Coun­try Rally World Cup with vic­tory on last week’s Abu Dhabi Chal­lenge. The Qatari guided his Toy­ota Hilux to a half-hour win af­ter five days in the Liwa Desert… Toy­ota Ga­zoo Rac­ing devel­op­ment driv­ers Hiroki Arai and Takamoto Kat­suta will con­test July’s Rally Fin­land in a pair of Ford Fi­esta R5s. The pair are be­ing trained in time for Toy­ota’s re­turn to the World Rally Cham­pi­onship next sea­son, with one or both ex­pected to com­pete in a Y aris WRC. Un­til now, Arai, 22, and Kat­suta, 23, have been com­pet­ing in the Fin­nish Cham­pi­onship in Subarus… Paolo An­dreucci won last week’s San­remo Rally. The mul­ti­ple Ital­ian cham­pion headed up a Peu­geot podium lock­out, with Alessan­dro Perico and Si­mone Cam­pedelli fol­low­ing him home in 208 T16 R5s, al­beit some dis­tance be­hind on the for­mer WRC round... This year’s Drive DMACK Fi­esta Tro­phy fea­tures a re­vised scor­ing struc­ture. Still run over five rounds, those events will be run in three pairs (Por­tu­gal/poland, Poland/fin­land, Ger­many/ Spain), the driver scor­ing the most points over each pair wins two WRC2 rounds in a Fi­esta R5 next sea­son. The same driver can still win six 2017 out­ings, but they will have to score con­sis­tently across all five ral­lies...
