Only one Olympic gold medallist has ever started the Le Mans 24 Hours. Frenchman Henri Oreiller won two gold medals for men’s downhill skiing during the 1948 Winter Olympics and started the 1962 Le Mans 24 Hours in a factory Abarth-simca 1300 Bialbero. A total of eight Olympic athletes have raced at Le Mans, but Hoy will be the first Summer Olympic gold medallist to start the endurance classic.
