MSA Formula name change not soon

Ford MSA Formula chief Sam Roach has downplayed suggestions that the category could be imminently renamed as British F4.

FIA Single Seater Commission president Stefano Domencali had told Autosport last week that such a move would happen “within a couple of days” after Jonathan Palmer had apparently relinquished the F4 naming rights as his series has been rebranded as BRDC British Formula 3.

However Roach said that a name change would not happen yet. “We are just waiting for decisions from the MSA,” he said.

Domenicali said that the category becoming British F4 would make the UK’S single-seater ladder clearer. “Last year [in Britain] there was great confusion and we received a request from the MSA to find a solution,” he said. “This was an acceptable compromise for the British federation to be aligned with the FIA strategy.”
