Calendar clashes

Motor Sport News - - Have Your Say -

With reference to your leader article on the letters page last week ( Motorsport News, April 13) – why is it so difficult for circuits and organisers to create a calendar without the major clashes that happened last weekend?

It would appear that they want to make it as difficult not only for the competitors and teams, but also spectators and marshals.

The World Endurance Championship, British Touring Car Championship, British GT and the Historic Sports Car Club 50th Anniversary meeting at Castle Combe all on the same weekend is complete and utter madness.

Fortunately I will be marshalling at Combe, where there is always a good turnout of marshals but I wouldn’t have wanted to be trying to organise marshals for the Grand Prix circuit at Silverstone last weekend.

And on top of that we have the Grand Prix from China, the Indycar race from Long Beach, NASCAR, World Touring Car Championship and V8 Supercars to watch. Where am I going to find the time? After almost 50 years of reading
