Audi has decided not to appeal its exclusion from the opening round of the World Endurance Championship earlier this month.

Andre Lotterer, Benoit Treluyer and Marcel Fassler won the Silverstone race on the road but were later excluded after their Audi R18 e-tron quattro’s skid block had been found to be worn beyond the permitted limit in post-race scrutineering.

Audi Sport boss Wolfgang Ullrich said in a statement: “It is our job to avoid increased wear – we accept this responsibility.

“We have made our decision in the interest of the sport and hope that the eight remaining world championship rounds will be similarly thrilling as the season opener.”

Audi’s decision not to appeal confirms the win went to the Porsche crew of Neel Jani, Romain Dumas and Marc Lieb.
