Turkington lines up a double drive at Donington Historic Festival
Two-time British Touring Car champion Colin Turkington will handle two different cars at the Donington Historic Festival – an EX-DTM BMW M3 E30 and a Corvette.
The Northern Irishman, who raced at the Silverstone Classic in 2014 in a BMW 3.0 CSL, will enter the Touring Car Challenge event in the ex-steve Soper 1992 BMW M3 E30, owned by Mark Smith, and go up against a number of his rivals from the BTCC, including Matt Neal.
Then he will step in to the Sam Thomas Racing Chevy Corvette for the 90-minute GT and Sports Car Cup race, which features pre-1966 GT machines and pre-1963 Sports Cars that raced at world championship level.
Turkington said: “I am thrilled to be racing the BMW. I had an E30 as my wedding car – I simply love them. It has a really strong pedigree too, so that is exciting. Although I missed that era for tin-tops, to step back in time is a real privilege.
“I am sharing the Corvette with Sam Thomas, who owns the BMW I raced at Silverstone in 2014.
“I have tested a lot of his cars, and I drove one of his Lister Jaguars during a test at Silverstone last week. Hopefully we will be doing more races together in the future.”
