Gill returns to British championship after nine years out
Former British Rally Championship regular Rob Gill will return to the Pirelli Carlisle Rally for the first time since 2007 next weekend.
Gill contested Rally GB last year after a six-year break from competition, driving Stephen Petch’s WD40backed Ford Fiesta R5. Petch uses the car in the BTRDA with a two-litre engine, which has to be converted back to the homologated 1.6-litre for the BRC 1 class.
“The Pirelli is a brilliant rally,” said Gill. “All the big names have won there, your Mcraes, Vatanens etc. It’s probably the fastest piece of man-made forest in Europe.”
Gill is hoping to compete on more BRC events this year: “I’d love to do every round but obviously it depends on budget and time. I have great memories of the Scottish and the Manx, the Manx is a legendary event.
“It’s no fluke top drivers come and compete in the BRC. It’s on the up.”
