After a switch to a WRC Ford Fiesta from his usual R5, Josh Moffett won his home Monaghan Stages Rally ahead of brother Sam and former winner Niall Maguire.

The top three remained the same throughout the rally’s nine stages, with Sam having James Fulton on the notes for the second time this year. Although at a disadvantage with the car, Sam was only 40s back from his brother at the finish.

Maguire – with Enda Sherry on the notes – had won the event on multiple occasions in the past. Even so, he was no match for the more modern Fiestas in his S12B Impreza. His best finish this year remains second on the Birr Stages Rally.

There was a huge battle behind the top three, mostly among the Ford Escort Mk2 men, and it was Jonathan Pringle in his example who was the pacesetter. Pringle was fourth on SS1 but lost a few seconds in SS2. He briefly dropped to eighth but quickly battled back to fifth behind Stephen Wright in his Fiesta R5 by stage three. Pringle retook fourth by stage four and held that to the end, with Wright fifth. Gary Mcphillips was slightly cautious at the start but set some quick times as the day progressed to finish sixth.
