Former BMW racer Richard Tyzack has acquired a rare Kellison J4R sports-racing car and gave it a debut run at Silverstone last Saturday.

The US built car dates from the mid-1950s and was the work of former fighter pilot Jim Kellison, using Corvette parts including a 4.6-litre Chevrolet engine.

It was more recently rebuilt and raced by Albert Otten, including at Goodwood, and is thought to be one of only seven such models built. Only one other is likely to still exist.

“It’s a mid-life crisis,” said Tyzack of the car, which he will share in the GT and Sports Car Cup with Nick Taylor.
