F1 tsar Bernie Ecclestone has vowed to help female drivers break into the sport by backing Susie Wolff’s Dare to be Different scheme, following controversial comments last week about his view on their abilities. Ecclestone claimed a female F1 driver “would not be taken seriously”, while also suggesting they would struggle physically in the cars. Ecclestone then told MN’S sister title Autosport: “Let me be clear, I would love to see a woman driver in F1. Absolutely. One hundred per cent. I was asked ‘if there was a sponsor wanting to put £100m into a team, providing it had two women drivers, what would I say?’ I said ‘I’d give another £20m to make it happen’.”
