Porsche Club champion Pete Morris lost a battle against the clock to fix his car in time to launch his title defence at Brands Hatch last weekend.

Morris shunted heavily at Paddock Hill Bend on his first flying lap of qualifying, which damaged the front and rear of his 996.

Despite the Strasse squad’s hard work, the battered car could not be patched up in time for the first race. However, the crumpled machine was refettled in time for race two and Morris charged to fourth place.

“I’ve raced here many times and I was practising on Friday, but on this occasion the brakes snatched and spat me off,” said Morris. “It’s a pity the [second] race was shortened, because I had the podium in my sights.”
