Tin-top racer returns in Cleland Vauxhall
James Hanson has returned to Super Touring, 15 years after he raced a Volvo in the European Touring Car Championship.
Hanson, now an established racer in the historic arena, joined the Super Touring Trophy grid at Donington Park in an ex-john Cleland/james Thompson Vauxhall Vectra.
“It was originally built by Ray Mallock Ltd and it later went out of the UK,” said Hanson who trades in historic race cars through his Speedmasters operation. “It came back from Scandinavia and Anthony Reid drove it in the demonstrations at the Goodwood Members’ Meeting in March.”
After a promising karting and single-seater career, Hanson raced in the ETCC in 2001 and 2002: “I raced in a slightly later period to this car and it’s just a bit of fun now. I’ll do the Silverstone Classic races as well.”
