Ginetta keen to evaluate more BTCC support slots for GT5 Challenge
Ginetta will evaluate whether the Ginetta GT5 Challenge will reappear on the TOCA support bill after debuting on the package for the first time at Thruxton last weekend.
The GT5 Challenge replaced the GT4 Supercup as a support race on the British Touring Car Championship package in Hampshire. It usually forms part of the British GT Championship undercard.
Championship manager Ash Gallagher described the decision to replace GT4 Supercup with the GT5 series as a big opportunity for the drivers involved. who will also join the TOCA supports at Croft next month.
He said: “It’s great for them to get to experience the TOCA paddock – I think it’s a forward step for them and it’s good for the drivers and the series in general.”
Gallagher confirmed that Ginetta would review arrangements for next season at a later date.
Ollie Chadwick, who won both of the Thruxton races for Xentek Motorsport and leads the championship, added that competing in front of a larger crowd gave a boost to the GT5 field.
“We’ve done British GT previously, which I think is still a phenomenal package, but it’s still nothing compared to this with the crowds,” he said.
“For us it’s a huge platform and a chance to show the Juniors the Supercup isn’t the only route, GT5 is an option for drivers out there.”
