Birch joins GT Marques for Cayman contests and eyes British GT4
British GT driver James Birch will contest a selected number of GT Cup rounds in a Porsche Cayman Clubsport GT4 this year as he builds up to a return to the category.
Birch will partner Esmee Hawkey in the GT Marques-run Cayman, and made his debut in the car at Brands Hatch last weekend.
The pair took third place in class in Sunday’s endurance event, with Hawkey scoring a solo podium on Saturday.
Birch, who has experience in both British GT4 and the Porsche Carrera Cup, said: “I’m doing a handful of GT Cup races this year to see how it goes and hopefully it will be on the cards for Esmee and I to possibly step up to British GT next year.
“The Cayman is a great car, but it’s currently in production spec without the GT4 update kit, so it’s running heavier than the other cars. It’s got a great chassis and engine and the update kit will add carbonfibre body panels and more stability at the rear.”
