British GT man Giddings wants extra Clio Cup outings after return
British GT4 driver Jake Giddings is eyeing more races in the Renault UK Clio Cup after returning to the category at Thruxton last weekend.
The 21-year-old – who is racing for JW Bird Motorsport in British GT this year – returned to the series for the first time since 2013, driving for his family Finesse Motorsport squad.
He was drafted in to help assist team-mates Paul Streather and Daniel Rowbottom get a tow in qualifying around the high-speed Hampshire circuit.
But Giddings struggled in the races, picking up a best finish of 11th in the opener after being shuffled down the order, and suffered a fuel surge problem in race two. “That was hard work after two years out of the series,” said the 2014 GT4 champion. “I’m used to GT racing, which is a bit more polite!”
Giddings said he would like to race again in Clios if he can fit it into his schedule: “This weekend hasn’t gone to plan so it would be nice to do some more races.”
