Donington joins 2016/17 MN Circuit Rally Championship calendar
Donington Park will join the Motorsport News Circuit Rally Championship for 2016/17, MN can reveal.
The championship has released an eight-round calendar similar to the 2015/16 bill, with Donington replacing Croft in the series on March 5 2017.
“I’m pleased to be adding such an iconic circuit to the calendar,” said championship co-ordinator Darren Spann. “It’s had outstanding feedback from last year’s events.”
David Baugh of the Dukeries Motor Club is pleased the Donington event will form part of the series.
“We’re delighted after one running of this new event that they’ve seen fit to include us in the championship,” he said. “It’s good to have one of our events in a national championship.”
As well as the new calendar, the championship will continue to be supported by Michelin and promoter MSVR.
Michelin will again put a significant prize package on offer to entrants, continuing the Michelin Cup which awards one crew per round a free set of tyres from a random draw of registered class winners.
Michelin motorsport manager for the UK, Tim Hoare, said: “Motorsport is a great arena to stretch our capabilities and develop new technologies. We are proud to continue supporting this innovative championship in 2016/17.”
The Neil Howard Stages will kick start the season at Oulton Park for its second year. The Snetterton round, which closes the current season this weekend, switches to February. Cadwell Park moves to become the season finale next term.
