Tom Coro­nel claimed the win in the first World Tour­ing Car Cham­pi­onship race in Morocco last week­end, af­ter fend­ing off reign­ing cham­pion Jose Maria Lopez. Brit James Thomp­son had started on pole but was punted out by Hugo Va­lente off the line. Va­lente was handed a driv­ethrough penalty for the in­ci­dent, hand­ing Coro­nel’s Chevro­let Cruze a sur­prise win. Rob Huff led a Honda podium lock­out in the se­cond race, beat­ing team-mates Nor­bert Miche­lisz and Ti­ago Mon­teiro. How­ever, the Civics are un­der in­ves­ti­ga­tion for the com­pli­ance of their flat floors. Lopez was best non-honda in fourth in his Citroen. It was the first time since the Chi­nese rounds in 2014 that a Citroen failed to win ei­ther race dur­ing a WTCC week­end… Paul di Resta took his first DTM win in six years as the Ger­man tin-top se­ries got un­der­way at Hock­en­heim last week­end. Audi’s Edoardo Mor­tara was tri­umphant in the open­ing race af­ter pass­ing team-mate Nico Muller into the first cor­ner… Volvo has de­cided to with­draw its works Polestar team from V8 Su­per­cars at the end of the sea­son. The Swedish make en­tered the se­ries in 2014 and will now exit when the new ‘Gen2 Su­per­car’ tech­ni­cal pack­age is in­tro­duced next sea­son, which per­mits non-v8 en­gines to be used… Kyle Busch held off Kevin Har­vick and Kurt Busch to take the NASCAR Sprint Cup win at Kansas last week­end.
