Fernando Alonso is pleased Mclaren has ended its run of not getting a car into Q3 since the partnership with Honda was rekindled. Alonso qualified 10th for his home race and described it as a breakthrough result. “It’s something that we probably deserved,” he said. “I’ve been watching Q3 on TV for too long now and it’s good to be part of the show. It’s a fantastic feeling, the first time in Q3 and, with no big incidents happening [to other rivals cars], then it’s good news for us.” Alonso retired from the race with a software problem.
